The Lewis C. Weinberg Biennial Sculpture Competition was established by the family of Lewis C. Weinberg, who served as President of the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park Board of Directors for many years until his death in November 2008. Prior to his participation on the Board, Weinberg was for many years Chief Executive Officer of Fel-Pro, a local company widely known for its progressive management. His interest in sculpture was such that he employed a full-time sculptor-in-residence.
Among his many contributions to the Sculpture Park, Weinberg donated eight important pieces of sculpture from his personal collection. These sculptures form the centerpiece of the Park’s permanent collection.
The Lewis C. Weinberg Sculpture Competition, a biennial event, honors Mr. Weinberg’s love for art and his deep interest in the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park. The 5th competition will be in 2017; artists interested in entering may do so by completing an on-line application or submitting a standard mail application before the July 1, 2017 deadline. The winner will be announced on August, 1, 2017. Installation of the winning entry will be in September, 2017. All costs associated with the installation are generously covered by the Weinberg family.
