Residents of Friedman Place, a non-profit supportive living community for blind and visually impaired adults in Chicago, recently visited the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park where they learned about the sculptures from docents and their own touch. They were escorted to several pieces where they were able to feel the shapes, textures and size of the art pieces. It was the first such visit for the eight men and women from Friedman Place and all agreed it would not be the last. As one of the participants said, he would like to take the experience and put it in a jar so he could enjoy the memory forever.
The tour was part of the non-profit Sculpture Parks educational outreach, including Sculpture in the Classroom and Art in the Park, bringing an appreciation of art and creativity to the schools, institutions and the communities surrounding the Park.
